Kris Krabill and the Austin OBrien race team clinched the 2016 Heritage Nitro Funny Car Championship. In Nostalgia Funny Car, Jason Rupert of Yorba Linda, Calif., powered to the event victory with a 5.592 at 250.32 in his ’69 Camaro over world champion Kris Krabill’s 7.494 at 116.19 in his ’78 Firebird. After the first day of qualifying here at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kris Krabill and the Austin/O’Brien “Northwest Hitter” are sitting in the #2 position going into race day. They ran an impressive 5.870 at 227.73. That was followed by a stout 5.815 at 244.49 by Steven Densham, setting the new track record. After another electrifying win in Boise and 6 weeks off, Kris Krabill and the Austin & O’Brien “Northwest Hitter” are ready to take on race number three of the NHRA Heritage Series. The Bardahl Oil/Dayton Superior sponsored AA/FC will be 1 of an expected 17 funny cars vying for a spot in the 8-car field. The Austin and O’Brien Bardahl and Dayton Superior backed funny car gets their second win of the season in Boise, Idaho at the 46th annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor. Kris took on Dan Horans “The Patriot” in the much anticipated final round. Horan with lane choice after a 5.67 in the semi round finish took the favorite right lane and put Krabill in the left lane for the first time today.
